Welcome to El Conquistador
El Conquistador stands as a welcoming gateway to the heart of Cuenca, Ecuador. Nestled on C. Gran Colombia, this hotel balances a rich colonial ambiance with everyday practicality, serving travelers seeking both comfort and cultural immersion. With a solid rating of 4.1, it delivers a sincere experience that resonates through its clean, simply updated rooms and notably warm service.
What truly elevates El Conquistador is its staff. Guests often highlight the attentive, friendly personnel who offer genuine care and thoughtful recommendations. From Andres’s dedicated service to the helpful front desk team arranging local transportation, the human touch shapes an inviting atmosphere that feels like home.
The location is a notable asset—just steps from the Parque Calderón and a light rail (Tranvía) station that efficiently connects visitors across Cuenca. This blend of convenient modern transit and proximity to architectural treasures like the Immaculate Conception Cathedral and Pumapungo ruins enriches every stay.
Breakfast at El Conquistador offers a hearty mix of traditional Ecuadorian flavors and familiar comforts. Though some note occasional shortages during busy hours, the kitchen responds quickly to requests, reinforcing the hotel's commitment to guest satisfaction.
While the hotel’s facilities may show signs of age—with dated furnishings and certain amenities like high bathtubs or lack of in-room safes—the value remains strong. Guests appreciate the balance of price and quality, especially given the prime location and gracious staff. Not having onsite parking is a consideration, but arrangements can be made nearby.
El Conquistador is not about extravagant luxury; rather, it is an earnest place where travelers can rest comfortably amidst Cuenca’s vibrant colonial heritage and contemporary city life. It invites guests to experience Ecuador’s rich culture firsthand, wrapped in genuine hospitality and thoughtful details that quietly enrich the visit.

The rooms were clean and pretty updated. But what made this hotel the best was the staff and the breakfast. Andres was great with the service and recommendations. There was also a younger girl at the front desk I didn't get her name but she was very helpful with arranging transportation. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Service
Value for price is a great deal. Rooms are OK, the hotel is getting old. Location is amazing. Just in front of the Hotel you can find a Tranvía station which will take you anywhere you want to go. Also, walking distance from the best zone in Cuenca, Parque Calderón. Breakfast is very complete. To pay a fair price, I really recommend Conquistador. If you want more amenities paying 5x more, there are a lot of other options.
Nice hotel and great location. Clean, comfortable rooms. Staff is very helpful and kind. If you travel by car, hotel arranges parking for you. However, you may need to consider that it's an additional cost since hotel does not have own parking space.
This is a great hotel to stay in, for a number of reasons. After a very comfortable night's sleep and a great breakfast, you can step out of a very modern hotel in to a mixture of modern and old. You can see local people dressed in cloths that reflect their past and heritage. In the street traffic there passing by is the modern light rail train, quite cleen no smelly fumes, what a contrast. We stayed a week here and enjoyed what they had to offer, very nice restaurant, bar and coffee shop. The staff were there and very responsive to our needs. Just a few points that could be improved, the bathroom getting in and out of the bath/shower for people of our age, there needs to be a step outside of the bathtub and an additional grab handle. We drive an electric vehicle, we live on the coast which means we could get to Cuenca, but we could not get back to the coast, need EV charging not just for me, but also to attract other environmental minded people and increase business.
Nice hotel! Stayed here for about a week. Breakfast was yummy, a mix of authentic food and stereotypical breakfast food (eggs/pancakes/toast). Breakfast did run low between 9am and 10am, but if you asked they'd make you more of what ran out. Was hoping for a safe in the room, but it didn't have one. (Had no issues with leaving things in our room though.) Staff was friendly. Rooms cleaned daily: brought new towels, shower stuff, and water bottles every day. WiFi was okay (not wonderful, but not awful). Stayed on first floor of rooms (which was third floor of building) in a three person bedroom. Beds aren't incredibly soft, a little hard, but I never once had back problems (and I usually get them with slightly harder mattresses). Construction outside is kind of loud, but the hotel really can't help that. Just be prepared to be woken up between 7am and 8am by construction, unless if you bring ear plugs. Great location otherwise: plenty of shops, food options, and activities nearby.
Furnishings are dated and the bathtub is too high and slippery. Other than that, it is a good place. Don't pay the rate listed on-line.
Stayed 2 nights with my family. Rooms were simple, but clean. The service/attention was exceptional! We had quite a few small requests for the front desk and each time they gave us a solution with a smile
Room was ok. Excellent location. Breakfast was standard..but apparently they did not count on having that many guests that sunday because buffet kept running out and there were not enough people to replenish it, and take away the dishes and serve extra coffee...had to eat one thing at a time...
